Over 500,000 cats exterminated in Beijing
“Thousands of pet cats in Beijing are being abandoned by their owners and sent to die in secretive government pounds as China mounts an aggressive drive to clean up the capital in preparation for the Olympic Games. Hundreds of cats a day are being rounded and crammed into cages so small they cannot even turn around. Then they are trucked to what animal welfare groups describe as death camps on the edges of the city. The cull comes in the wake of a government campaign warning of the diseases cats carry and ordering residents to help clear the streets of them. “

I was searching for pictures of China before, and I came across the above image. I clicked on it, and found this information. I just had to write a blog post about it, so my readers know the extent of Beijing’s Olympic Games clean up acts.
Others include spray painting grass green and killing homeless people. (Although I’m not so sure on the homeless people fact).
Anyway, doesn’t it make you feel sick? Hundreds of thousands of poor cats are being killed, just so Beijing looks good for the Olympic Games. Me being an avid cat lover,the horrific photos struck hard.
The cats are hauled of the streets and crammed into cages, to travel to their doom. If only I lived in Beijing, then I could try and rescue them! I wish there really was more I could do to help, but for now all I can do is spread the word.

I am so disappointed, even though I am not that big of a cat fan, still, they don’t deserve to die so easily for a million dollar olympic game!!! And that number too… carzy people crazy, I agree too, that this is an outrage killing and doing awful things!! And you can bet I will spread this word.. do you mind if I write about it on my blog??
Oh my.. oh my… how greedy what selfish acts to kill all those cats and homeless people? Are they crazy or something because you know, when I get angry I get angry and god knows what kind of foul language can com out, and what little arguments I can form!
Poor cats.. stuck in tiny cats.. unable to move!! All this is too much.. just for the Olympic games.. what a shame! Count me as a good friend of yours that cares.

P.S What a coincidence, I have a class project in my school about Olympics which I am excited about. When you mentioned this, it had made me reluctant. Good on you sister.

Guess what? I also have a 2 week holiday!! How cool is that? I am so happy, for we’ve been working hard all term and to finally have a break is good news!!

How sad and just cause they want to clean up Beijing. I thought cats would look nice and make Beijing look better for the oylimpics. I still dont understand how people can do such things!

I have only just seen your post even though you wrote it a week ago!
Well done for following up on items about China. Your interest has obviously been ’sparked’.
If they are doing that to cats what are they doing to other living creatures – dogs etc.
There are many people around the world who think that ‘looking good’ is what it is all about!

Hayley, I completely agree, the photos are exactly proof because they show that it IS happening, and how the cats are looking like squashed up. So it should be true because of the photos, they look real. Good point!
